Frequently asked questions.
though, to be honest, these are mostly the question we anticipate people would ask most frequently.

No prob. Discussions will definitely reference book material, but the ideas will be the focus. Some months you might finish the book, some months you might not even start, but either way you’ll be able to fully participate. Reading is encouraged, though.

Look, we’re not checking birth certificates or genitals here. If you think redefining masculinity resonates with your lived experience, this is a space you can feel safe in.

Maybe! Some of that will depend on timing. Reach out to us at info@mantrospection.com if you’re wanting to cancel your membership.

Yeah, we went back and forth on this. Ultimately, we decided on a few things. First, we wanted everyone in the club to have the book every month. Second, we wanted to buy the books from a local shop. Third, we want people to be able to stay connected through an easy-to-use system. Adding all of this together meant there wasn’t a way to cultivate this particular experience without the fee.

Club members get honest-to-goodness hard copies. If you prefer eBooks or audiobooks, you should consider that an additional expense on top of the membership fee. OR, check out your local library. Most of them offer some kind of digital resource that allows you to check out eBooks and audiobooks.

Absolutely. Our monthly in-person gatherings are also connected virtually, so if you want to participate in the discussion, you can do so that way. That also gives KC folks the ability to stay connected if they’re feeling a bit under the weather.

We meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm. The precise location varies, but it’ll always be within five-ish minutes of Westport, which is a neighborhood in Kansas City, MO. Some of where we meet will depend on how many in-person RSVPs we have for that night.
-
These are every Tuesday morning at 8:30 for the first four Tuesdays of the month (i.e., if there is a month with a fifth Tuesday, we’re off that day).
The meetings will be an hour long, and they’re basically a good old fashioned Zoom meeting. There will be time to talk about how we’re doing, what we think about the material, and processing other ways we’re learning and growing. -
If you can’t participate in the meetings, you’ll definitely miss out on a lot of what the community is supposed to be about (i.e., the community). But if you’re still really into the concept, you can still join. You’ll still get the book, and you’ll have access to some asynchronous group content.

Sort of. James and Michael prefer to focus on themes rather than point readers toward specific insights. Each week, we’ll give you a lens through which to read the text.
